SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2020 - RULES FOR SUBMISSION

We are looking for suitable stories to include in a new Short Story Book to be published in Autumn 2020. Formats to be used will be print, ebook and audio. Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must not have been published in a book or anthology, although they may have been previously published in a magazine, journal or periodical.

Stories have to be based on any one of the titles listed below and can be in any style, but must range between 800 and 2000 words in length. Stories exceeding 2,000 words may be considered but not necessarily accepted. All stories submitted may also be considered for publication online on the mentoringwriters.magazine.podcast being launched later in the year.

Entry is free and anyone can enter regardless of age. All writing will be judged but not all stories will be accepted for publication. A writer can enter as many different stories as they want as long as they adhere to the rules and the topics listed. Stories are aimed at young readers of varying ages so please ensure your story is appropriate reading matter. Anything containing profanity will be excluded.

The choice of titles is:

The Monster Under the Bed

Visiting Wonderland

The Secret Life of a Dinner Lady

The Friendly Crocodile

A Far Away Island

A Magical Paintbrush

Whatever happened to Teddy Bear

Did I see a Ghost?

My Unusual Holiday

Mystical Tree House

Once you have written your story please email it to contact@mentoringwriters.co.uk placing Writing Competition Entry in the Subject Line. Remember to include the title of your piece, your Name, Address and if you are under 18 years old please add your age.  Closing date for entries will be 30th June 2020 although we may extend this date if the number of entries is low.

However, all stories will remain the copyright of the authors and can be used elsewhere after the deadline has been reached. Those stories placed in print, ebook or audio formats will be accorded the appropriate recognition. Sales and Royalties earned from this book will, after off-setting the costs of publication and marketing, be donated to Kids4Kids.org.uk to help in the mentoring and publishing of up and coming new young writers.

By entering this competition, you agree to our using your story and the conditions as detailed above. We thank you.

Good Luck. Our Judges are looking forward to reading all entries.
